Who was alfred binet11/18/2023 The birth of his daughters prompted him to work in this field.įor this reason, in 1903 he published a book entitled L’analyse experience him of l’intelligence (Experimental Studies on Intelligence), where he analyzed about 20 subjects. On the other hand, Binet also carried out research on cognitive development focused on intelligence. He found that even though a player had a good visual memory, he could still have a clumsy game if he did not have other skills. With these observations, Binet came to the conclusion that to be a good chess player you not only need a visual memory, but you also need experience and creativity. However, expert players had no problem playing under these conditions. The researcher found that amateur players and even some who had been playing for a while found it impossible to play the game. The idea was to force them to play by memory. To carry out the study, players were deprived of their vision throughout the game. In other words, visual memory in this case is only one part of the entire cognitive process that influences the development of a chess game. However, after analyzing the results of his tests, he concluded that while memory plays a role, it is not everything. The objective of the researcher was to inquire about the cognitive faculties that chess players had.Īccording to his hypothesis, the ability to play chess was determined by a specific phenomenological quality: visual memory. One of Binet's first psychological studies focused on chess. In 1984, as director of the Experimental Laboratory of Psychology at La Sorbonne, Binet had complete independence to carry out his research. Research on cognitive development: chess and intelligence This would be the beginning of a long and fruitful relationship between the two professionals. That same year Binet and Beaunis founded the annual French journal on psychology called, L’Annee Psychologique.īinet served as both editor-in-chief and editor-in-chief of the magazine. In addition, during those first years directing the laboratory, the psychiatrist Theodore Simon contacted Binet so that he would be the tutor of his doctoral thesis.īinet agreed to supervise the work of Simon, who obtained his doctorate in 1900. In 1894, Binet became the director of the laboratory, a position he would hold until his death. Shortly after beginning his work in this field, he began to introduce students to the area of mental processes. It was at this institution that Binet began research on the relationship between physical development and intellectual development. than the Experimental Laboratory of Psychology of the Sorbonne. Beaunis was the director and offered Binet a position as researcher and associate director of the place, which was nothing more and nothing less. In 1891 Binet met Henri Beaunis, a physiologist and psychologist who had created a psychophysiology laboratory in 1889. Interest in cognitive developmentĪfter the birth of his two daughters Madeleine (1885) and Alice (1887), the researcher became interested in a new subject of study: cognitive development. This public failure caused him to cease to be interested in hypnosis. This represented a failure for Binet and Féré, who, due to pressure from Charcot, had to publicly accept the error, leaving the head of the investigation free from humiliation.īinet had based his entire career on this research and, having to recant, decided to leave La Salpêtrière's laboratory in 1890. He lived, studied and died in that city on October 18, 1911. This test, designed to measure intelligence, was the basis for what we now know as intelligence tests, as well as the creation of the intelligence quotient (IQ).īinet, a native of the city of Nice, France, was born on July 8, 1857, but after the separation of his parents when he was still very young, he moved to live permanently in Paris under the tutelage of his mother, a painter of the time. He is considered the father of the intelligence test.Īmong his most outstanding works, and for which he is most recognized, is for having been the creator, together with Théodore Simon, of the Test for the prediction of school performance.

I’m keeping busy working, so I’m very, very blessed. And then my engineer gets the drum tracks to files and sends them back. I go into a socially distanced room with my own entrance, I play drums all day on people’s tracks from all over the world that people send me. (And if you shoot him an email, he’ll gladly play on your song, too.) Amid all that, he also found time to play drums on the musical interludes in every single episode of Friends. He’s also worked on the soundtracks to movies like The Devil Wears Prada, Best in Show, American Pie, and Finding Nemo. He first made his name as a member of David Lee Roth’s original solo band, and has gone on to play with everyone from Santana and Toto to Don Henley, Spinal Tap, Duran Duran, Ray Charles, Ozzy Osbourne, the Doobie Brothers, and countless others. That would be a career-defining accomplishment for most drummers, but it’s just a tiny part of Bissonette’s life story. That means he’s been in a band with Ringo longer than any member of the Beatles, and he’s gotten to back him on Fab Four classics like “I Wanna Be Your Man,” “Yellow Submarine,” and “With a Little Help From My Friends” nearly 400 times each. It led to an invitation in 2008 to join his All Starr Band, a position Bissonette has held to this day, even though every other member from his original run is long gone. His prayer was answered 37 years later when Ringo invited him to play a few promotional gigs to support his 2003 LP, Ringo Rama. I remember praying to God, ‘Some day I’d love to play with Ringo.'” “He was keeping the whole thing together. “I spent the whole night focused on Ringo,” he says. When the Beatles played Detroit’s Olympia Stadium on August 13th, 1966, a seven-year-old aspiring drummer named Gregg Bissonette sat high up in the nosebleeds, rapturously soaking up every second of the experience.

Cloudinary export list of files11/18/2023 Our example image is a little more complicated. For instance – if it was always 640 px across on the layout, our sizes would look like this: sizes= "640px" Code language: JavaScript ( javascript ) If our had a fixed width, we could simply stick that width in a sizes and call it a day. To cope, we need to give the browser an estimate of the layout width of the image right in our markup, using a new attribute: sizes. In order to know an image’s display dimensions, browsers have to load and parse all of its page’s CSS – something which usually happens long after srcset-parsing. When browsers encounter our srcset, they’re missing a crucial piece of information: the ‘s layout width. So, let’s add a srcset attribute to an : Code language: HTML, XML ( xml ) They have a wealth of information about each user’s device, connection, and preferences and the pick-as-you-please philosophy of srcset lets them leverage it. This is a good thing! Browsers know a lot more about their context than we do. And we, as authors, can’t necessarily predict which sorts of users will get what. Why “probably?” Ultimately, browsers decide which users get which resources. So, if the image is 512 px wide on the layout, users on standard screens will probably get medium.jpg, and users on HiDPI display will probably get large.jpg. If a resource is 1024 pixels wide, stick a 1024w after it in srcset.īrowsers will load the resource that best matches the current context. These let the browser know how wide each resource is. We label each resource with a “width descriptor” - those numbers with 'w's after them, above. srcset allows us to stuff multiple resources into a single, via a comma separated list: srcset= "large.jpg 1024w, medium.jpg 512w, small.jpg 256w" Code language: JavaScript ( javascript ) How can we make this image responsive? The first tool in our belt is an attribute named srcset. Let’s dive in with an example: a news-y article page with a single, large-ish image up top: We can mark up image elements which have the ability to adapt. We can’t include a single image resource that’ll work for everybody, but by using new responsive image features, we can stuff multiple resources into a single and mark them up in such a way that browsers will load the most appropriate resource out of the set. Responsive pages are sending small-screened users nearly four times as much data as they need. How much waste? Tim Kadlec has estimated that - for users on low-res mobile devices - 72% of image bytes served up by responsive pages are wasted. Every time we send a user more pixels than their device can use, we’re asking them to load data which they’ll end up throwing away. They have a fixed height and a fixed width, and while it’s possible to make them visually grow and shrink using width and max-width CSS declarations, forcing users on small, low-resolution displays to load enormous images which have been sized to look good on high-resolution displays is a performance disaster. Heck, measured by bytes, most of the web is bitmap images. You see, most of the media on the web is bitmap images. That second ingredient, “flexible media” turned out to be a bit of a bugbear. Five years ago, Ethan Marcotte coined the term “responsive web design” and gave it three defining ingredients: fluid grids, flexible media, and media queries.

We are world traveling missionaries and students that have visited many countries and have lived in the States, South Korea, and are currently in the Philippines. We have two wonderful DD's, Enjoli (9) and Emily (7) that make life so much more fun! I, Mollie, studied Nutrition so I try to make most of our meals healthy while still tasting great! Our girls love helping us cook.and eat! We're vegetarian and love eating healthy without missing any flavor! We try to eat mostly vegan, so we have many vegan recipes posted. We are a couple, Jason and Mollie, that loves to cook together. Update: We've moved back to the states, and are experiencing the joys of living in Wenatchee, WA for the first time! I'm spending most of my time in the kitchen canning, freezing, and drying fruit now and loving it! VERY good - I will make this often! THANKS for the keeper!! Enjoy over baked potatoes or in dishes that call for sour cream. Add a little extra water if needed to remove all the clumps. Afterwards I told my "if I know what's in it I might not like it but otherwise I'll eat anything" boyfriend and he was surprised! Has kept about a week so far in my fridge and I've been experimenting putting it on everything. Add the lemon juice, apple cider vinegar and salt to the blender and blend until completely smooth. I didn't tell them and they raved about the salad. I used quite a bit in a potato salad at a barbeque with some "health food fearing" friends. I can't wait to try on a baked potato! I may toy with adding different spices (Italian, taco, etc) and using in even more! It does have a teeny bit of "tofu" flavor when eaten plain that may be slightly hard for people who fear tofu (as it just doesn't have that sharp, fatty richness), but when mixed with other ingredients that is masked completely. I have used this on sandwiches in place of mayo/meat and am eating as we speak on a salad in place of dressing, which is even healthier than the cottage cheese I usually sub for dressing. Other than the nut switch, I made as directed. I can't wait to catch a good deal on cashews, though, because this is AWESOME, even without them! It also helps to fill you up. I'm trying to trim out all those little fats that add up, dressings being a huge factor! I made this with walnuts instead of cashews because of the high cost of cashews. MMMM!! I'm already vegetarian and am really trying to be closer to vegan and watch what I eat so I can feel better and get in shape.

Sentinel lymph node biopsy breast11/18/2023 Early Breast Cancer Trialists’ Collaborative Group. Tamoxifen for early breast cancer: an overview of the randomised trials. Breast cancer among the oldest old: tumor characteristics, treatment choices, and survival. Schonberg MA, Marcantonio ER, Li D, Silliman RA, Ngo L, McCarthy EP. Axillary dissection versus no axillary dissection in elderly patients with breast cancer and no palpable axillary nodes: results after 15 years of follow-up. Lumpectomy plus tamoxifen with or without irradiation in women age 70 years or older with early breast cancer: long-term follow-up of CALGB 9343. Hughes KS, Schnaper LA, Bellon JR, et al. Patients who are candidates for adjuvant systemic chemotherapy should still be considered for SLNB.įive Things Physicians and Patients Should Question 2016. SLNB can be safely omitted in elderly patients with T1, HR-positive, invasive ductal carcinoma tumors, but may still provide important information affecting treatment. Adjuvant hormone therapy significantly improved overall survival. SLN-negative patients had better overall survival and less distant recurrence (both p < 0.0001). In both the overall cohort and the HR-positive subset, SLN status significantly affected the use of adjuvant chemotherapy, although no significant effect on recurrence was observed. Characteristics of the HR-positive subset were similar. Median number of SLNs obtained was 2 (range 0-12) and median number of positive SLNs was 0 (range 0-8). Most tumors were T1 (72%), N0 (69%), invasive ductal (77%), without lymphovascular invasion (88%), estrogen receptor-positive (88%) and progesterone receptor-positive (75%), and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-negative (88%) treated with lumpectomy (71%). Of 500 patients, 345 (69%) were SLN-negative. Outcomes were analyzed using the Kaplan-Meier method and univariable analysis, and were compared using log-rank tests. One of the most exciting and talked about new surgical techniques in breast cancer surgery is the sentinel lymph node biopsy. Patients were compared according to SLN status with subset analysis of HR-positive patients. We collected clinicopathologic characteristics and treatment data. We examined the effect of SLNB on treatment and outcomes in this population.Ī single-institution retrospective review of consecutive cN0 women ≥ 70 years of age who received SLNB was performed. SNB rates in this cohort were lower than in non-pregnant breast cancer patients. The Society of Surgical Oncology's Choosing Wisely ® guidelines recommend against routine sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) in clinically node-negative (cN0), hormone receptor (HR)-positive breast cancer patients aged ≥ 70 years. Methods We carried out a comprehensive literature review focusing on the journey of the use of sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) in breast cancer from. To be accepted as a standard of care, it had to pass successfully through a long journey which started in the early 1990s. This is one of the largest reported experiences of SNB during pregnancy however, numbers remain limited. Background Sentinel lymphadenectomy has replaced axillary lymph node dissection as a staging tool in early breast cancer. SNB in pregnant breast cancer patients appears to be safe and accurate using either methylene blue or 99-Tc. Among patients who underwent SNB, there were 25 liveborn infants, of whom 24 were healthy, and 1 had cleft palate (in the setting of other maternal risk factors). At a median of 2.5 years from diagnosis, there was one locoregional recurrence, one new primary contralateral tumor, three distant recurrences, and one breast cancer death. As a result, management of patients with these cancers has been revolutionized. There were no SNB-associated complications. It has been validated that sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) shows whether a patient’s breast cancer or melanoma has spread to regional lymph nodes. 99 m-Technetium (99-Tc) alone was used in 16 patients, methylene blue dye alone in 7 patients, and 2 patients had unknown mapping method. Of SNB patients, 8, 9, and 8 had SNB in the first, second, and third trimesters, respectively. Within a cohort of 81, 47 clinically node-negative patients had surgery while pregnant: 25 (53.2 %) SNB, 20 (42.6 %) upfront axillary lymph node dissection, and 2 (4.3 %) no lymph node surgery. Chart review was performed to tabulate patient/tumor characteristics, method/outcome of SNB, and short-term maternal/fetal outcomes. Patients who underwent SNB while pregnant were identified from a retrospective parent cohort of women diagnosed with breast cancer during pregnancy. This study evaluated efficacy and safety outcomes in pregnant breast cancer patients undergoing SNB. Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SNB) in pregnant women with breast cancer is uncommonly pursued given concern for fetal harm.
