Best place to stay in black forest11/19/2023 So if you prefer the quiet picturesque towns go to Gengenbach ( 11.000 inhabitants) and visit the Vogtsbauernhof (old farm houses museum) to see the rural area - and go to Furtwangen for the clocks - and avoid Titisee (where they sell the most clocks, but to masses of tourists and most clocks made in china). So to Freiburg: yes, it is a city, aproximatly 230.000 inhabitants, with a lot of students and eco-chique - in a medival city centre with farmers market around gothic cathedral.Īnd to Baden-Baden: is also a city, but with only 55.000 inhabitants and additional quite a lot of rich tourists, a lot from Russia with big cars and furcouts - du to the famous baths and the big casino - and also the big opera and concert hall. Well, let's say the Black Forest Region is not only about picturesque farmhouse towns - but from fame and acres it is mainly forest and farms of cows and goats. They also offer inexpensive massage, and many lovely eating, resting, and others (for example, salt rooms, crystal baths, grottoes, etc.) some nude areas, some not. I LOVE spas and baths in Germany, so just stay in the bath and not sauna section. They also may have an English version of the website. When you know which towns you are visiting, check them out. (there are some there that are nude, but are already in the sauna section). The most famous one, which is in Baden-Baden, is Caracalle-Therma, which is great and requires clothing in most of the baths. I don't know many spas directly in the heart of Black Forest but I know many in the periphery. In fact, if you spend a full day there, there's a lot of putting on and taking off of bathing suits. (yes, require, I was told that I would have to leave if I wanted to wear a bathing suit.) However, the "baths" section of many of these places allow and even prefer suits. First of all, most baths that have saunas require nudity in the sauna area. They have different areas inside, some nude, some not. If you are planning a trip to the Black Forest and want a lovely hotel with excellent service, great dining, along with a relaxing spa area, I believe you would enjoy Bareiss as much as we have during our many stays. While I like Freiburg a lot, it is a bit more of a "city" and less of a "small Black Forest town." It has many old buildings, which is great, but not that "old farmhouse" look.Īs to baths, there is some variety. We often travel out of our way for a chance to stay at this wonderful hotel where we are made to feel at home each time we walk through the front entrance. Bareiss is a luxury hotel where the family treats every guest as someone special and I believe that is reason that Bareiss is considered on of the top hotels in Europe. I’m sure I’ve forgotten something but then that will be yours to discover. The 19th century Black Forest House - typical for the area - stands. They have a little village to call their own with a treehouse, circus wagon, lego and game room, an adventure and water playground, petting zoo and more. Simple, but good this is the concept of the Black Forest Lodge. If you are traveling with children, they are not left out. It has indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a natural pool, whirlpools, steam rooms, saunas and rooms for massages and treatments. For something more relaxing, there is the wellness spa. There are also organized tours, country walks and free use of electric bikes. There is so much to do while staying at Bareiss, you can attend a cooking class or lectures on certain days of the week. and serves typical Black Forest specialties along with snacks of coffee and cakes. It is located between Mitteltal and Tonbach. Last but not least, if you are a hiker, Bareiss has the Sattelei hiking hut. The trout farm also delivers freshly caught rainbow and golden trout, salmon and char that it raises, to the Bareiss restaurants. We enjoy going there for a delicious trout lunch or if you wish, you can buy freshly smoked trout in the restaurant’s shop. It is a centuries old building that was renovated in 2017. Bareiss also has the Forellenhof Buhlbach, which is a restaurant and trout farm that is located in the heart of the Buhlbach conservation area. If you don’t wish to take the half board offer or want to dine at a different restaurant during your stay, there are three à la carte restaurants where you will be served a regional, international or 3 star Michelin meal.
